Alro stocks A-36/A572-50, a dual-certified carbon hot-rolled steel. It meets the requirements of both ASTM A-36 and ASTM A572-50. A-36/A572-50's strength, form-ability, and excellent welding properties make it suitable for a large variety of different applications.

There is dual certified material, usually made by dropping the max chemistry of the more highly alloyed material into the range of the less alloyed. Here for example the mill would have to drop the 1.35 max Mn of A572 to below the 1.2 max of A36.
However, the A36 does not guarantee the greater strength. A572 Grade 50 (and now A992) are very popular specifications for somewhat stronger material (minimum 50KSI yield strength instead of 36KSI). Many mills can dual-certify their product for both A36 and A572 Grade 50.
